Every Man A Slave!

Some of you reading this are thinking, “That is a bold claim.” Would you believe me if I told you that the Bible teaches that this is mankind’s inescapable reality?

I know. We don’t like the word, slavery. It makes us think of the chain of our fathers. I’m talking about spiritual bondage—I’m talking about slavery to sin!

“Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin” (John 8:34). The Apostle Paul likewise wrote, “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” (Romans 6:16).To be a servant here literally means slave. We were born this way!

“Behold I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” (Psalm 51:5).

“The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.” (Psalm 58:3).

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Rom 3:23)

The crimes committed against black people as of a hundred years ago were outrageous and unacceptable. Nevertheless, we need to see that our sins against God are outrageous and unacceptable! There is a greater and more predominate slavery at hand which is condemning all races to hell. Sin is criminal behavior! Sin is an offence against God because it breaks his laws.

“Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” (1 John 3:4).

To transgress the law of God is a personal crime against the lawgiver Himself! The consequences of such crimes are eternal, except there is repentance. All of mankind are responsible before God to repent and believe the gospel of Jesus Christ. What we are talking about here is the difference between heaven and hell!

“And the times of ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent.” (Acts 17:30)

“And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” (Mark 1:15)

According to Jesus, our great need is to be born again! “Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again.” (John 3:7).

This is speaking of a spiritual birth. This is where real freedom comes from! It is an experience of miraculous freedom from the internal chains of slavery to sin. The bible also teaches, that this miracle takes place through being crucified with Christ, where it is no longer you, but him living.

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me.” (Gal 2:20)

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Cor 5:17)

My dear reader, do you know this freedom from Spiritual slavery to sin? Have you been made free by the Son of God? Perhaps you are one who celebrates our freedom from earthly slavery. Heaven celebrates the freedom of sinners when they repent!

“If the son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” ( John 8:36)

“Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.” (Luke 15:10)
